Drop Atomik A.K.A. Aaron James has been around in the Adelaide Hard Dance scene for a few years now & regularly appears at some of Adelaide’s biggest gigs. He learnt to mix whilst still in High School after befriending DJ Phase, learning with Happy Hard & Hardcore. The passion for the music certainly began here but just after High School music was put on the back burner for a few years with other commitments.
The passion & love for the music was rediscovered in Sydney after attending the original Sublime nightclub in Pitt Street. He pretty much immediately loved the vibe of ‘Voodoo’ held every Friday night & found himself there regularly. With the music rediscovered it was only a matter of time before the enjoyment of DJ’ing kicked back in.
He started out spinning Uplifting & Progressive Trance to begin with but he just couldn’t fight the love of the harder sounds. Things naturally progressed from here to Hard Trance, Hard House & NRG. It was at a Transmission party at Bondi Junction where he first saw DJ Zany spinning a whole new style, ‘Hardstyle’. The rest is history from there.
He first appeared as a Top 10 State Finalist at the Defqon 1 DJ Competition in 2009 and his sound & appearances have just grown from there. In 2011 he discovered producing through CMAP (Computer Music & Audio Production) school run by his good mate Studio X. After finishing 4 genre modules of CMAP he knew he wanted to make a Hardstyle track with his mate Studio X. At the end of 2011 they sat down together in the Studio & what came out is their pumping workout track, 'Needs More (Cowbell)'. He is currently working on more solo projects & is in the works of planning a follow up collaboration with his great mate Studio X.
He currently holds a residency with Rhino Promotions with his favourite event being the yearly ‘Rampage’ birthday party. Additionally he also holds a monthly residency with club night Puls8 where he is also the event manager. Already supporting big artists such as D Block & S-Te-Fan, Toneshifterz, Code Black, Tha Playah, Brisk, Scott Brown, Stimulant DJ’s, AMS & Weaver just to name a few, you can now expect only one thing ....to hear a lot more from this DJ.
